Romelu Lukaku vs Harry Kane: Who has the edge statistically this season?

Stat Attack | Posted on by
Ahead of Manchester United's clash with Tottenham this weekend, daily fantasy football game Oulala.com have compared two of the Premier League's (and world's) most in-form forwards this season, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane.

As the Premier League's top two scorers last season, Lukaku and Kane have begun the current campaign where they left off the last, scoring goals. The Manchester United and Tottenham forwards have already netted 15 league goals between them after the first nine games and all eyes will be on the pair as they walk out at Old Trafford on Saturday.

In the build up to the much anticipated showdown between the strikers, we've taken a look at how Lukaku and Kane have matched up statistically this season in an attempt to reveal who has the edge going into this weekend's game.

Creativity

Lukaku is the clear winner when it comes to providing chances for teammates. The Belgian has recorded more key passes per game (1.4) than Kane (1), while he also has two assists to the Tottenham striker's one.

Dribbling

Kane has been far more successful than Lukaku when taking on opponents, completing double the amount of successful take-ons per game (1.4 to 0.7).

Shooting

Kane has also had far more attempts at goal than Lukaku, averaging an incredible 6.3 shots per game to the Manchester United forward's 3.8.

Finishing

While Lukaku has enjoyed better shot accuracy (65% to 54%) and conversion rate (21% to 14%) figures, the most important number is in Kane's favour, scoring a goal more (8 to 7).

Goal Involvement

With Lukaku and Kane both involved in nine league goals, the Spurs striker has had a slight edge on a per minute basis. Kane has been directly involved in a goal, on average, every 88 minutes. Lukaku has taken an average of 90 minutes to do the same.
