Stats show why Harry Kane MUST be in your fantasy football team

Stat Attack | Posted on by
If you're about to ditch Harry Kane from your fantasy football team, don't do it! Our exclusive stats at Oulala.com reveal you'll be making the biggest mistake of your life.

Harry Kane is about to return to the goalscorer we all know and love and when he does, you'll realise that you did the right thing in keeping him. A player's underlying stats are critical when making the right and wrong choices as a fantasy football manager.

"Sometimes the ball does not go in, as it didn't against Chelsea with one off the post and the few chances I had. It is part of the game, I just need to keep working hard, keep my head down and I am sure the goals will come." Kane told The Telegraph.

The 24-year-old appears unfazed and you should be too. Kane answered his critics in 2015 after being labelled a one-season-wonder, going on to win back-to-back Golden Boots in 2015/16 and 2016/17. So to suggest his morale has taken a hit by his lack of goals is nothing short of ridiculous. This is a player that oozes confidence. The goals will come... and sooner rather than later.

Why are Harry Kane's stats so promising despite his lack of goals?

Of the 184 players to have registered at least one shot in the Premier League this season, Kane's rankings are mind-blowing.

The Spurs striker has had a total of 14 attempts at goal, five more than his nearest challenger, Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (9).

Ten of Kane's 14 shots have come from inside the penalty area, three more than Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku (7) who sits second. Nine have come from open play, again the league's best, topping Man United's Marcus Rashford and Southampton's Nathan Redmond (both 9). While five have come as a result of set-pieces, one more than Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey and Southampton's Maya Yoshida (both 4).

Alongside Southampton's Manolo Gabbiadini, Kane has hit the woodwork the most times (2). Five of his shots have been blocked, only matched by Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne

Although only four of his shots have been on target, an accuracy of just 28.6 per cent, only Liverpool's Sadio Mane has managed more (5). However Kane also ranks second for shots off target (5). Gabbiadini is the only player to have registered more (6).

Is it fair to compare Harry Kane's dry spell to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's last season?

An example used recently to suggest that Kane's goalless streak may continue was Zlatan Ibrahimovic's six match goalless streak at the beginning of last season. After scoring four goals in Man United's first four games, the Swede failed to find the back of the net in their next six against Watford, Leicester City, Stoke City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Burnley.

Ibrahimovic played every minute (540) during his six game dry patch, registering a total of 35 shots without scoring.

On the surface, it appears a valid comparison and potential evidence as to why Kane's lack of goals may continue. But Kane and Ibrahimovic is not a fair comparison. Their shot accuracy and conversion rate are incomparable.

In 30 Premier League appearances last season, Kane recorded the seventh most shots (110) yet comfortably outscored any other player (29), four more than Lukaku (25). An impressive conversion rate of 26.4 per cent. While of the top 10 players to have registered the most shots, Kane's accuracy of 65 per cent was better than any other player.

In contrast, Ibrahimovic's figures struggle to come anywhere near the Kane we know. In 28 appearances, the Swede had the fourth most shots (116) yet his 17 goals was only the seventh best in the Premier League. A conversion rate of just 14.7 per cent. Ibrahimovic's shot accuracy (55%) also fell well below Kane's.

Who are Harry Kane's next opponents?

Tottenham's opponents at the weekend, Burnley, faced Chelsea in the Premier League's opening weekend. The stats from the game fully back up Kane's potential to break his duck. Despite losing 3-2, Chelsea had a total of 19 shots. Thirteen of these came with 10 men on the pitch following Gary Cahill's red card, while four came in the last nine minutes after being reduced to nine men following Cesc Fabregas' dismissal.

Our stats suggest Harry Kane is a strong fantasy football pick this weekend, but are you convinced? Will he make it into your fantasy football team?
