Harry Kane vs Alvaro Morata: Which striker should be in your fantasy football side?

Stat Attack | Posted on by
Harry Kane has now failed to score a goal in 11 Premier League appearances in August, a run that totals 727 minutes. In contrast, it took Alvaro Morata just 10 minutes to find the back of the net on his Premier League debut last weekend. Food for thought for fantasy football managers ahead of Tottenham's clash with Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.

Can Harry Kane break his August hoodoo against a Chelsea side he tends to excel against? In eight appearances when facing the Blues, Kane has scored four goals and made a further two.

Will Antonio Conte hand Alvaro Morata his first Premier League start following his impressive cameo appearance against Burnley after being involved in both Chelsea goals in their 3-2 defeat?

With the strikers coming head-to-head this weekend, we have gone all the way back to start of the 2013/14 campaign, the season both players broke into the first teams at Tottenham and Real Madrid respectively, to analyse which player you should pick in your fantasy football team this weekend.

While Kane and Morata have each made 113 league appearances since August 2013, our analysis at Oulala.com has been broken down to a per minute basis due to their imbalance of starts and substitute appearances.

Our stats show that Kane has recorded almost double the amount of minutes when compared to Morata, 9,073 in the Premier League to the Spaniard's 4,774 in La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League.

Having recorded almost half of Kane's minutes, Morata has also scored half the amount of goals (78 to 39) and registered almost half the amount of shots (415 to 195). There's a pattern emerging...

Analysing these numbers in more detail, our findings reveal Morata in fact has a slightly better conversion rate (20% to 19%) and falls just six minutes short for the average amount of minutes it has taken him to score each of his goals (116 to 124).

If Morata had been given the same amount of game time as Kane, would his goal tally also be the same?

Kane is of course the safer fantasy football pick. He has more experience playing in the Premier League, has scored 20+ league goals for three consecutive seasons and has won back-to-back golden boots. Not to mention his record against Chelsea is pretty impressive.

However, we're expecting Antonio Conte to hand Alvaro Morata a spot in Chelsea's starting XI on Sunday and urge you to do the same. He has hit the ground running and his stats suggest that if given the chance, he'll deliver again.

Pick both!

Our stats suggest Harry Kane and Alvaro Morata are both strong fantasy football pick this weekend, but are you convinced? Will either make it into your fantasy football team?
